A lucky dog is safe after a harrowing ordeal in a British Columbia nature area. Logan Lake Royal Canadian Mountain Police (RCMP) and Logan Lake Volunteer Fire Department participated in a “risky” rescue, the RCMP shared in a press release.

A bystander called RCMP after the dog of an elderly couple got stuck on a ledge partway down a cliff overlooking nearby Mimi Falls.

The pup’s owners, and bystanders were unable to safely reach Chevy, the nearly 80-pound, 7-year-old, American Bulldog Terrier cross. Chevy, who was a rescue herself, had become stuck in a precarious position overlooking the 30-meter deep rocky canyon, states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the BC RCMP in the Southeast District.

Chevy was rescued safely by two officers who used “climbing and rappelling gear” to bring him back up on level with his owners. Margot Wikjord, Chevy’s owner, told CTVNews Vancouver that the rescue took almost two hours.

“I prayed a lot,” Wikjord told the news station. “She alternated between barking at me and then she was crying and then she got tired of that and then she laid down.”
