The world’s largest banks allegedly funneled nearly $1 trillion into fossil fuel corporations last year, even as scientists warn Earth could breach the 1.5 degrees Celsius threshold within two years. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, Barclays, Mizuho Financial, and MUFG are among the biggest contributors. Meanwhile, heat related deaths in the U.S. have surged over 50% in two decades, and healthcare costs from extreme heat could exceed $1 billion annually by 2040.

Some banks are changing course, with 40% of the 65 largest institutions reducing fossil fuel financing, but the most powerful players keep doubling down. Our futures are not theirs to gamble with.
