A 74-year-old woman is making headlines after saving her dog from an alligator attack.

While taking her dog for a walk, Suzan Marciano decided to take off her dog’s leash so that she could play in the water of a lake. The two were playing fetch when Marciano saw a shadow in the water.

Nalu, the 74-year-old woman’s dog, was quickly attacked by the alligator, getting trapped in its jaws within seconds. Marciano immediately sprung into action and fought back.

Marciano said, “My heart dropped. I wasn’t thinking, I did the only thing I could do. I came down on the alligator with all my weight.”

Marciano ended up being able to wrestle her dog away from the alligator, getting them both to safety. She sustained one deep puncture to her palm, which needed five stitches. Nalu suffered puncture wounds to her stomach and thigh and required immediate medical attention and a two-hour surgery.

A wildlife commission officer and park ranger later searched the lake but did not find any alligators.

This is an amazing story that shows the love between a dog and her owner.
