Students and staff at a Maine elementary school are going above and beyond to care for a school service dog, WMTW reported. Ory the pup is part of the elementary school’s special education department and she has been diagnosed with dysplasia and degenerated hips.

The school has set up a GoFundMe page for Ory, who’s only 16 months. The requested money will help Ory receive the medical attention she needs! “She’s only 16 months and she deserves that opportunity to have a great life. The vet said her life will be amazing once this is done and dealt with,” said Christen Suratt, a teacher at Willard.

“The surgery will ensure Ory a long healthy and fulfilling life free from pain,” said Jessica Jones who created the Go Fund Me. Staff and students call the fundraiser called “Pennies for Paws.”

Soon after setting up the fundraiser for Ory, so many people donated to the GoFundMe that it exceeded the initial goal of $20,000. Ory was able to get the surgery and is currently recovering. The extra money that was not used for Ory’s surgery will be donated to Project Chance to help other children get their own service dog.
