Last year, a dog named Trooper was found chained to a pole and left to face Hurricane Milton alone. As floodwaters rose to his chest, Trooper stood starving, with nearly two pounds of trash and plastic in his stomach—allegedly eaten in a desperate attempt to survive. Thankfully, he was rescued in time, adopted by a loving family, and has now inspired “Trooper’s Law” in Florida.

This new state law penalizes people who abandon animals during natural disasters. But Florida isn’t the only place hit by extreme weather. As Climate change worsens, disasters are growing more frequent and dangerous. We need this protection nationwide.

Let Trooper’s survival mean something more. Help push for a federal version of Trooper’s Law. Sign the petition now to protect pets across the U.S. from neglect in future disasters. Sign now and share widely.
