Paralyzed Dog’s Tail-Wagging Dream Captivates Hearts

A dog named Adelaide, who recently suffered paralysis in her back legs due to an unexpected injury, has touched the hearts of many. Adelaide’s resilience and unwavering spirit were captured in a viral video, where she was seen wagging her tail in her sleep. Despite the challenges she faces, this brave Italian Greyhound is a shining example of strength and hope in the face of adversity.

Adelaide, a four-year-old Italian Greyhound, lived a happy and active life with her humans, Jess McKay and Ryan Robinson-Hatton. However, disaster struck when Adelaide experienced a sudden injury while playing with her sister, Phoebe, earlier this month. A blood-curdling scream alerted her humans, who rushed to the scene only to find Adelaide sitting on the ground, unable to use her back legs.

Fearing the worst, Jess and Ryan quickly sought medical attention for their beloved fur baby. X-rays revealed that Adelaide had not sustained any broken bones, prompting further investigation. The subsequent MRI diagnosed Adelaide with acute non-compressive nucleus pulposus extrusion (ANNPE). ANNPE is a type of intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) in dogs, which occurs when a disc protrudes or ruptures, often compressing the spinal cord. It typically manifests with sudden pain during activity, accompanied by crying out and lameness, typically on one side of the body.

Although the diagnosis was devastating for Adelaide’s humans, they were relieved to learn that ANNPE often improves over time for most dogs. While progress has been slow, Adelaide has begun showing signs of improvement, offering a glimmer of hope for her recovery. In a video that quickly garnered over 700,000 views, Adelaide was captured wagging her tail while sound asleep. Overwhelmed by this display of happiness, Jess posted the heartwarming video, accompanied by the poignant words, “Knowing she’s happy in her dreams makes me cry.”
