4. Nearly 130 Animals Rescued From Puppy Mill

On September 26, 2016, nearly 130 animals were rescued from a North Carolina property in a joint effort with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office. Acting on an anonymous tip, authorities found the animals living in filthy conditions, many confined to rusty cages and suffering from untreated medical issues.

5. 114 Dogs Rescued From High Volume Breeder

The Humane Society of the United States joined the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office to rescue 114 dogs and puppies from a breeder’s property in North Carolina. Hidden behind debris and overgrown fencing, the property revealed filthy and hazardous conditions typical of severe neglect. Many dogs were emaciated, suffering from untreated medical issues like skin infections, eye problems, and malnutrition. Nursing mothers and their litters, including puppies too young to open their eyes, were found in deplorable environments.
