Terminally Ill Dog Stops Attempted Burglary

A terminally ill hospice dog named Tango has emerged as a hero after thwarting an attempted robbery at his foster carer’s home. Tango, a dog suffering from renal failure and a heart murmur, found himself in the care of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) after his previous family could no longer provide for him. Fortunately, Tango became part of the shelter’s Golden Paw Hospice foster program, designed to offer in-home care for animals diagnosed with terminal illnesses.

Despite his own health challenges, Tango’s foster family noticed his lively and “talkative” nature during his stay. Little did they know that Tango’s vocal tendencies would play a crucial role in a defining moment just over a week ago. Late one evening, Tango’s vigilant barking alerted his sleeping foster family to an intruder who had broken into their home. With unwavering determination, Tango’s intense barks not only startled the intruder but also spurred them to flee the scene. Thanks to Tango’s timely intervention, the situation was diffused, and the family avoided potential harm.

While the incident left Tango’s foster family understandably shaken, they found solace in the fact that Tango’s presence had protected them. Despite his own health struggles, Tango continues to keep a watchful eye on his surroundings, ever ready to alert his loved ones of any suspicious activity.

KC Routos, from the ARL, emphasizes that Tango’s courageous actions underscore the profound connection between foster carers and their hospice pets. Tango’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the selfless love and loyalty that animals offer, even in the face of adversity. Routos reflects on the significance of shelter animals like Tango, acknowledging the difficult decisions many families face when surrendering their beloved pets due to unforeseen circumstances. Tango’s bravery not only saved his foster family from harm but also exemplified the resilience and compassion found in shelter animals.
