Dog’s Happy Face When Going Home with Foster Family Melts Hearts

Dog hanging head out window of car, tongue out. Dog's smile after going home with foster family melts hearts

Foster homes can make a world of difference for dogs waiting to find their forever families. Foster homes help take dogs out of the stressful shelter environment and give them practice navigating home life. However, only eight percent of households in the United States open their doors to foster animals according to estimates from the World Animal Foundation

One Facebook post from the Suncoast Animal League highlights just how much joy foster homes can bring to shelter pets. The picture posted is of a dog named Addie. Addie was brought to the Florida-based Suncoast Animal League after an overcrowded rural shelter asked them to take her. However, shortly after Addie arrived, Hurricane Idalia threatened the state. Since the Suncoast Animal League is housed in an old building, they were faced with the daunting task of finding temporary foster placements for all the animals under their care.

Since Addie does not get along with all dogs, the animal rescue was worried about her chances of finding a safe placement ahead of the storm. However, one amazing couple stepped up for Addie! Jay and Kim Philbrook took the dog in. Addie’s excitement to be going home with her foster family was captured in an amazing photo that shows the pup smiling broadly as she sits in the back of the Philbrooks’ car. The photo of the happy dog warmed hearts on Facebook.

Along with Addie’s story, the Suncoast Animal League thanked all of the community members who fostered animals during the storm. Not only was Addie able to find a wonderful foster home to stay safe in, but the rest of the shelter’s dogs and the majority of the feline residents were also placed in foster homes for the storm.
