Ingredients You Need for Homemade Rainbow Sprinkles [Vegan]

For the Homemade Rainbow Sprinkles:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons shredded coconut
  • 1 teaspoon natural food coloring (see below)

For the Homemade Food Colorings:

  • 1 small beetroot
  • 1 small carrot
  • 2 leaves red cabbage
  • 1/8 cup baby spinach
  • 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon spirulina
  • 1 pinch baking soda

How to Prepare Homemade Rainbow Sprinkles [Vegan]

For Store-Bought Food Coloring:

  1. Add 4-8 drops of color to 1 teaspoon of water and mix thoroughly.

For Homemade Food Coloring:

  1. Separately grate around 2 3/4 tablespoons of beetroot, carrot and 5 1/2 tablespoons of red cabbage.
  2. Chop the spinach leaves finely, or pass them through a garlic press to create a paste.
  3. Press the grated/minced veggies through a fine sieve, until you have around 1 teaspoon of juice.
  4. Add a pinch of bicarb soda to 1 teaspoon of red cabbage juice to make it turn blue.
  5. Add 1/8 teaspoon of turmeric or spirulina to 1 teaspoon of water and mix thoroughly.

For the Homemade Rainbow Sprinkles:

  1. Put 1 teaspoon of food coloring liquid into a bowl.
  2. Add shredded coconut and mix thoroughly until coconut is completely and evenly coated with color.
  3. Spread on a dehydrator tray and dry for about 2 hours, or until completely dry.
  4. Mix colors together after drying (optional).
  5. Store in an air-tight container at room temperature until required.
