The herbed and spiced chickpeas are held together by almonds, or any nut that you have on hand — no flour necessary — and they're fried until they're crunchy and golden on the outside. These go great with guac, salsa, and pair beautifully with thick-cut sweet potato fries.

Crispy Falafel Patties [Vegan, Gluten-Free]

  • 1 15-ounce can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons ground almonds
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 small red onion
  • A handful of chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Coconut flour, for light coating
  • Coconut oil, for frying


  1. Place all the ingredients in a food processor and pulse a few times until you get a chunky crumble.
  2. Taste and adjust the seasoning
  3. Wet your hands and create 4 patties. If the mixture doesn’t hold well together, add more ground nuts or coconut flour
  4. Heat coconut oil in a deep-frying pan and fry each pattie on each side until brown
  5. Serve warm with avocado mash and some chunky salsa
