TGI Fridays has expanded their plant-based menu, partnering with Beyond Meat to use Beyond Beef to create new proprietary chili menu items.

The new items include Beyond Chili, Beyond Chili Ballpark Nachos, Beyond Chili Loaded Potato Skins, and the Beyond Chili Cheeseburger.

TGI Fridays’ existing plant-based meat menu also includes the Beyond Meat Cheeseburger, a Beyond Burger patty layered with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles, and Fridays sauce on a plain bun.

“We’re about making everyone feel welcome here and that means having more than one or two plant-based meat options on our menu for people, whether they’re plant-based eaters or meat eaters,” Sara Bittorf, TGI Fridays Chief Experience Officer, told FSR Magazine. “Plus, Beyond Beef tastes amazing, so this is something you’re definitely going to want to try. With five menu items featuring Beyond Meat, there’s something for everyone.”

From grocery stores to restaurant chains, plant-based meat sales have skyrocketed in recent years. In 2019, wholesale foodservice sales of plant-based meat grew 37 percent.

According to research from the Good Food Institute, 58 of the top 100 restaurant chains are following the demand for plant-based meat and increasing their plant-based offerings. The third annual Good Food Restaurant Scorecard ranks the top 100 restaurant chains in the U.S. on the depth, breadth, and promotion of their plant-based entrées.

Although the pandemic has shut down in-person dining at many restaurants, COVID-19 has actually spurred significant growth in plant-based meat sales, up by 264 percent since March 2020. Due to concerns about zoonotic disease caused by animal agriculture operations, plant-based meat has become a sustainable and safe alternative for consumers.

Plant-based meat companies have taken advantage of the increased demand for their products, releasing new products and expanding to new countries and major grocery stores around the world.
