This wonky-faced dog that was found and rescued in the Qatar desert is now set to become the hero of a children’s book. The book reportedly will teach about being loved for who you are.

Alan is a boxer-Saluki mix and has a facial deformity known as “wry mouth”. This deformity causes the upper jaw to deviate to one side of his face.
The two-year-old dog was a stray living on a building site in Doha, Qatar, with his parents and five siblings. Luckily, the security guards on the site were helping look after and feed the family, but when the guards had to leave the site, the family was alone again.
Mirror reported that Johanna Handley was living in Doha at the time and found out about the family of pups. Handley was known to rescue dogs and decided to take them in and care for them. Handley instantly fell in love with Alan and decided to make him a permanent member of her family. She also worried that he might not be adopted due to his special face.
Handley’s sister adopted one of the other dogs, and the rest of the family was taken to America via the National Greyhound Adoption Program (NGAP) charity, where they would be adopted.
Alan is still healthy and lives a completely normal life with his forever family.
“He’s a completely lovely dog, really sweet, very calm and chill,” Handley said. “He loves to run on the beach and he’s a total thief. He’d steal food out of your mouth.
“I actually think of him a bit like a therapy dog. He’s so sweet, just being around him makes you a bit happier.
“He gets on with the other dogs mostly as well. The two male dogs can get annoyed, but they love him too.”
Now, Handley is writing a children’s novel that is inspired by Alan and is called ‘Alan the Wonky Dog’.
“The book is about a little girl who finds some stray dogs in the desert, she instantly bonds with Alan who is very wonky but very sweet.
“I want the story to show that you don’t have to be perfect to be loved.”
