A quiet Woodhaven, Queens neighborhood became the backdrop for an unthinkable act of violence. A woman’s ex-boyfriend allegedly became intoxicated, refused to leave her home, and attacked her cat, Kitty, in one of the most disturbing ways imaginable. According to reports, he held the cat by her head and back legs, stretching her body until she suffered internal decapitation. Kitty’s injuries included a smashed skull, 24 broken ribs, a burst eyeball, and a shattered pelvis. District Attorney Melinda Katz called it one of the most gratuitously violent animal deaths she had ever seen.

Justice for Kitty matters because this level of violence is never isolated. It signals a serious threat to both animals and people in the community.
