Watch This Rescue Dog Get Her First Toy

Dog with toy

Every pet parent cherishes the joy of providing their furry friends with firsts, but for Rachelle Carranza (@loki_the_flame_keeper), the true magic happened when she handed her rescue dog, Rory, her very first toy.

Rory, a 3-year-old stray pup, captured Carranza’s heart when she began fostering her from the local animal control. Emaciated and fearful of people, Rory’s journey from neglect to love tugged at Carranza’s heartstrings. Determined to offer Rory a forever home, Carranza shared that the pup had to be a part of their family.

Over the past few weeks, Carranza dedicated herself to helping Rory adjust to her new home, nursing her back to health, and most importantly, giving her a second chance at life. Earning Rory’s trust and demonstrating that humans could be kind, Carranza decided to reward her new furry friend with her very own toys, a gesture that brought tears of joy to both their eyes.

Rory’s initial uncertainty gave way to pure happiness, especially when she discovered her favorite, a squeaky bear toy. Carranza shared, “She still cries with happiness whenever she plays with it.”

The decision to formally adopt Rory was fueled by Carranza’s understanding of the challenges faced by dogs like her in shelters. Recognizing Rory’s sad state during her shelter days, Carranza, who already owns wolf dogs, took a DNA test to confirm Rory’s heritage—revealing she’s 60 percent Siberian husky and 40 percent German shepherd.

Although Rory’s previous life remains shrouded in mystery, Carranza speculates that she might have been a backyard breeding dog who either ran away or was abandoned by her previous owners. Since joining Carranza’s family on October 5, Rory’s progress has been well-documented on Carranza’s social media account.

Sharing updates and educational videos about wolf dogs and rescues on TikTok, Carranza recently posted a video of Rory joyfully receiving her first toys on November 1. The video has garnered over 38,000 views and 3,700 likes, creating a heartwarming wave of Support for Rory.
