A hungry and scared dog named Pony was found on the streets. She came to the county shelter and seemed depressed and did not want to do anything. The shelter quickly realized that Pony was pregnant.
“I will never forget finding her trembling on the concrete floor of the shelter,” Sky Sanctuary Rescue said in a Facebook post.
After some time, the crew was finally able to gain Pony’s trust, just enough to take her on a walk outside on a leash. As soon as they walked outside of the building, they could see the soon-to-be mom’s “fear melt away”. The tail began to wag, and she finally felt safe enough to deliver her babies.
Pony went through a long labor and delivery but had the staff right next to her the whole time, making sure that she was safe and comfortable. A staff member laid down next to Pony in the labor pod as she panted. Pony got lots of love and pets through the process and finally gave birth to eight healthy puppies.
In a video posted by the shelter on Facebook, the seven girls and one boy puppy can be seen feeding on their mama, and Pony looks happy and safe. Pony and her puppies are doing well, and the staff says the puppies got fluffier every day!
“Momma knows she’s safe now, we will protect her and her family. It is an honor to be a part of Pony’s journey,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.
