After five long years in a shelter and even experiencing the heartbreak of being returned by previous adopters, a 17-year-old feline has finally found her happy ending.

Grace Antonczak, accompanied by her fiancé, stumbled upon the senior resident during a visit to Ohio’s Toledo Humane Society in April 2024. Initially just browsing, Antonczak felt an immediate connection upon seeing the cat “huddled up in a corner.” Despite years of waiting, Antonczak was determined to offer the cat the loving home she deserved for her remaining years. On April 6, the senior feline left the shelter to begin a new chapter in her life.

Reflecting on the decision to adopt, Antonczak shared, “My immediate thought was that her situation was really sad, and I wanted to take her home.” Despite the cat’s initial wariness, Antonczak discovered her to be friendly and sweet, albeit not a typical cuddler. The cat, affectionately known as Gramma Kitty, had faced disappointment before. Three months prior, she was adopted only to be returned due to financial constraints. However, this setback was not the end of her journey to find a forever family.

Antonczak’s TikTok video introducing Gramma Kitty to her new home quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and an outpouring of Support. Antonczak hopes that the attention will inspire others to consider giving senior pets a second chance at a loving home.
