Hands are examining the quality of wastewater treatment systems to control chemicals before releasing water into the environment. Check for contaminants in water sources. Water and ecology concept.

A new study has uncovered that a diet rich in dietary fiber may help remove toxic “forever chemicals” from the body—offering a simple yet powerful way to protect your long-term health. Researchers have found that fiber can significantly reduce the levels of PFAS—per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances—in the bloodstream.

PFAS are synthetic chemicals used in everything from non-stick pans to waterproof clothing. They’re known as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down in the environment—or the human body. Over time, they accumulate and have been linked to cancer, liver damage, and developmental issues.

In this latest study, scientists found that participants who consumed higher levels of dietary fiber excreted more PFAS in their waste, reducing the toxic burden on their bodies. The effect was seen even with moderate increases in fiber intake, like adding more fruit, vegetables, oats, or legumes to your meals.

This is especially important as PFAS contamination is widespread. Earlier reports suggested that the tap water of over 100 million Americans may be tainted with these invisible pollutants. While regulatory efforts lag behind, this research gives individuals a chance to take proactive steps to protect their health.

As the toxic legacy of industrial Pollution continues to grow, it’s more urgent than ever to focus on prevention through plant-based, whole-food diets. By ditching ultra-processed products and embracing natural fiber-rich foods, we can Support our bodies in fighting back against these harmful chemicals.

If you needed another reason to eat your greens—this is it. Choose plants, not plastic. Go fiber-rich, go vegan, and help detoxify your life and the planet.
