Conservationist and Dancing with the Stars contestant Robert Irwin has shared an emotional update about his beloved pug, Stella. The 21-year-old revealed on Instagram that a mass discovered on Stella was found to be cancerous, describing the situation as “a tough one.” According to People, Irwin said he remains hopeful that his “little bestie” will recover soon.
Currently competing on DWTS in Los Angeles while Stella remains in Australia, Irwin admitted it’s been difficult being away from her during treatment. “I have faith she’ll be in the clear,” he wrote. “She’s my little bestie and one tough cookie.” He added that Stella is recovering well after surgery and thanked fans for their ongoing Support.
Many of Irwin’s co-stars and loved ones have reached out with kind words. His sister Bindi called Stella “a strong and beautiful little soul,” while his mother, Terri, wrote, “Every day is another day of healing.” Fans flooded his post with love for both Robert and his resilient pug.
The Irwin family has long been admired for their compassion toward animals and tireless work in wildlife Conservation. Robert has followed in the footsteps of his late father, Steve Irwin, dedicating his life to protecting the environment and inspiring others to do the same.
In a touching reflection shared the day after his post about Stella, Irwin said he’s dedicating his upcoming DWTS performance to his mother and to “all the strong mothers of the world.” It’s a fitting tribute from someone who continues to honor family, love, and the living world his father cherished so deeply.
Stories like these remind us that compassion — for pets, for people, and for Earth — connects us all. Let’s continue to Support those who care for animals and protect the world we share.
