Two African Grey Parrots, also known as Congo Grey Parrot, perched on branch, scratching each other.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has granted African Grey Parrots full legal protection, banning their capture, sale, and trade. This decision is historic, but it will mean little unless the law is enforced with real consequences for traffickers. Without action, these intelligent, social birds remain at risk of extinction.

African Grey Parrots once numbered in the hundreds of thousands, but decades of trapping, habitat loss, and smuggling have devastated their populations. Many parrots, who can live nearly a century and form lifelong bonds, were allegedly crammed into crates for the exotic pet trade, leaving entire regions silent.

We cannot let this protection become empty words. Sign the petition now to demand the DRC crack down on traffickers, curb demand, and ensure enforcement of the ban. Every signature counts to help these iconic birds survive.
