Like many other animals in Africa, the rhinoceros has recently become critically endangered. With extreme poverty and organized crime exacerbating Africa’s poaching problem, one rhino killed every six hours for their horn. Some species of rhino have already been declared extinct and many others are close in tow. If action is not taken to help protect these animals, there is a good chance they will no longer be found on the African landscape.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya is home to a large number of Africa’s endangered animals, including rhinos and chimpanzees. With over 107 rhinos currently residing in their care, they are also home to the last three northern white rhinos on the planet.
With so many endangered animals to protect, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy employs a large staff, including a number of armed guards. In true military fashion, the guards sometimes enjoy a nice early morning run, which this baby rhino seems to be enjoying as well! Seeing how fast and playful rhinos can be is a testament to the good care that they receive at this sanctuary.
Without their help, much of Africa’s remaining wildlife would have nowhere else to turn. If you would like to help them in their Conservation efforts, please visit their website here.
