A new bill introduced by Senator Cory Booker could finally help hold factory farms accountable and reduce the suffering of millions of farm animals across the US.

The Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act of 2022 would end line-speed increases, which are awful and dangerous for animals and workers. It would also end self-inspection loopholes for animal slaughter and protect sick and injured animals that are kept alive and suffering until their ultimate slaughter.
Tens of billions of animals are slaughtered every year in the United States, and nearly all of them come from cruel factory farms. The rise of the factory farm has meant that billions of animals have had to endure a life that can only be described as cruel and barbaric. A life without ever feeling the sun on their back, fresh air in their lungs, and the freedom to fully extend their limbs, flap their wings, or exhibit their natural behaviors.
A deeper look into the lives of factory-farmed animals reveals that we have created a huge prison system for animals where they are no longer considered sentient beings, capable of feelings, thoughts, and pain, but instead are treated as products on an assembly line from the moment they are born to the moment they are murdered.
