Climate activist Greta Thunberg thinks the COP26 climate summit should be postponed, according to the BBC. The teen is concerned about the coronavirus pandemic and lack of vaccine equity across nations.

“Of course I would love to attend the Glasgow COP26. But not unless everyone can take part on the same terms,” Thunberg tweeted. In a thread describing her thoughts, the activist shared that “Inequality and climate injustice is already the heart of the climate crisis. If people can’t be vaccinated and travel to be represented equally that’s undemocratic and would worsen the problem. Vaccine nationalism won’t solve the pandemic. Global problems need global solutions.->”

The summit has already been delayed once. Thunberg noted that her attendance or the summit itself shouldn’t affect the urgency surrounding climate change. “We don’t have to wait for conferences nor anyone or anything else to dramatically start reducing our emissions,” Thunberg said.

While Thunberg doesn’t hold a formal role at the conference, her decision to attend creates a symbolic vacuum by one of the forefront climate leaders.

Speaking to BBC News ahead of a new documentary series “Greta Thunberg: A Year to Change the World“, she shared her thoughts on the summit, “To be frank, the changes need to come from people demanding climate action,” she said. “Yes, these COP meetings are crucial and they are incredibly important. But we can have as many of these meetings and conferences as we want but as long as we are not really treating the climate crisis as a crisis, we won’t see any real changes coming from them.”
