Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.
Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Tell the EU and US to Protect and Rescue the Remaining Lions in Ukraine, Tell the UK to Enforce Animal Protection and Animal Testing Laws Properly, and Tell the EPA to Finally Ban the Dangerous Weed Killer Paraquat!
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.
1. Ban Animal Abuser From Owning Animals Again After He Abandoned Them and Let Them Starve to Death
An anonymous caller contacted the local Humane Society in Rogersville, Tennessee, to report an overwhelming smell of decomposition by a neighbor’s home. The caller noticed the sound of dogs barking and tipping inside the home, but no one had been seen at the residence for nearly two weeks.
Police discovered that the man who rented the property had abandoned the animals and left them to die. He had been accumulating animals but one day decided to walk away from them and go stay with a friend. While he was gone, they starved to death.
Investigators at the scene said they noticed a smell immediately on arrival. They found decomposed animals in cat carriers and cages that were left just right in the driveway. The home was full of rotting animal remains as well. Some were reportedly so badly decayed that authorities couldn’t identify the pet’s species.
Detectives and rescuers with the Humane Society found dogs in trash bags, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, and two aquarium turtles that were “so badly decomposed, their eyes were rotted out.” Some of the animals miraculously survived but were all severely emaciated, dehydrated, and covered in infections.
The surviving animals have now received care from a veterinarian and are on the road to recovery. Authorities found and arrested the animal’s keeper, but we need to make sure that he cannot keep any animals in the future.
Sign this petition to demand that authorities ban this cruel animal abuser from keeping animals ever again.
2. Tell the EU and US to Protect and Rescue the Remaining Lions in Ukraine
Source: NBC News/Youtube
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, countless volunteers have been helping to rescue animals all over the country, and many people are staying behind to help feed hundreds of refugees every day. The impact of the Russian invasion has been devastating for the environment and the global food supply and has even caused mass animal deaths like these dolphins in the Black Sea. Activists all around the world are standing for the people of Ukraine and demanding an end to this war.
Volunteers and organizations have been working to help rescue big cats in the country that are trapped in zoos. Recently, five wild animals crossed the Ukraine-Poland border after a long 36 hours of travel and are now safe in Poland. However, many big cats are still stuck in the war-torn country. The European Union and the United States have the means to help, and it’s time that they step up and rescue the hundreds of lions at risk in Ukraine.
The European Union and the United States have the money and resources to make sure that every lion in the country is safely transported out. These big cats deserve to be in a safe place away from violence.
Sign this petition to tell the EU and US to protect and rescue the remaining lions that are trapped in Ukraine!
3. Tell Canada to Establish a National Animal Cruelty Hotline
Although animal cruelty is federally outlawed in Canada, most provinces have their own laws and regulations that prohibit or criminalize the neglect of animals. However, without a national animal cruelty hotline, prevention is difficult, and reporting it can be a slow and confusing process. It is time that Canada steps up and establishes a national hotline to protect animals.
Numerous agencies in the nation are responsible for preventing and dealing with the consequences of reported or speculated animal abuse. This means that front-line animal protection is difficult because of all of the agencies and organizations involved. When someone wants to report animal abuse as soon as possible, it can take an incredibly long time and be confusing just to figure out where and how to report it. If Canada had a national animal cruelty hotline, animal abuse would drastically decline.

4. Tell the UK to Enforce Animal Protection and Animal Testing Laws Properly
Source: VICE News/Youtube
A new report found a widespread problem of non-compliance in Great Britain when it comes to animal testing and animal protection laws. The stories of avoidable deaths are heartbreaking and shocking.
According to the petition, In 2019, over 100 rats were crushed to death in a trash compactor. In 2020, a primate died after staff failed to notice the animal was trapped behind a restraint device. In 2021, 740 fish suffocated to death after the water drained from a tank because staff didn’t close the valve. Unfortunately, these are just the start of it.
Nearly a quarter of the non-compliance cases were simply because animals were not provided with food and water. These animals were starving to death because researchers simply forgot to feed these living creatures. Much of this abuse goes unnoticed because regulators continuously fail to crack down on labs when they discover non-compliance cases.Sign this petition to demand the Home Office properly enforce animal protection and animal testing laws!
5. Tell the IUCN to Protect Big Tuskers and All Elephants from Poachers
Dida, possibly the largest female tusker elephant in Africa, has passed away from natural causes. The elephant lived in a protected and free Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. She was believed to be between 60 and 65 years old, which is well within the range of wild elephants’ natural life. Unfortunately, most elephants will never reach this age because of outside threats like poaching and climate change. Dida’s death reminds us that we need to ensure all elephants have the safety and protection that she had.
According to estimates, up to 100 African elephants are killed every day. Most are slaughtered by poachers who will rip them apart to steal their ivory, meat, and other parts to sell illegally in the wildlife trade. Killing these animals not only hurts their herds which are deeply rooted in community bonds but also threatens the African elephant species as a whole.
We can take away an important lesson from Dida’s passing, and that is that all elephants deserve protection from poachers, as she had. This is why the IUCN needs to speed up its efforts to protect big tuskers.

6. Tell the EPA to Finally Ban the Dangerous Weed Killer, Paraquat, like the Rest of the World
Source: DW Documentary/Youtube
More and more research is finding that paraquat, a dangerous weedkiller used in the United States, is linked to Parkinson’s disease. The toxic spray is banned in numerous places across the world because of growing concerns about its safety, but it is still allowed in the United States.
A coalition of farm workers, public health advocates, and environmental organizations is demanding that the United States immediately ban the use of this dangerous weed killer. Paraquat is banned in the entire European Union, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and China. However, the EPA has been incredibly slow to listen to dozens of other countries about the public health risks of this dangerous chemical.
Parkinson’s is an awful disease, and millions of Americans endure it every year. There is no reason that our government should not be trying to protect us and the environment from this chemical.
Sign this petition to demand the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) join the rest of the world and ban paraquat from use in the United States!
7. Tell SeaWorld to Finally Send All Dolphins to Sanctuaries
A dolphin pod at SeaWorld Orlando today repeatedly attacked one of the dolphins in the pod, while the trainers were trying to do the show, causing the dolphin to start bleeding. 😬😥😥 #dolphin #seaworld #seaworldorlando #attack #violent #nature #fyp #wild #orlando #Florida
A video went viral of a seemingly injured and bleeding dolphin at SeaWorld Orlando who was attacked by other dolphins. The video, posted on TikTok by user @the.man.child shows an injured dolphin lying on the side of their tank where they are forced to perform in shows. The user claims that the dolphin was attacked by other dolphins and the trainers can be heard calling off the show in the audio of the clip.
“A dolphin pod at SeaWorld Orlando today repeatedly attacked one of the dolphins in the pod, while the trainers were trying to do the show, causing the dolphin to start bleeding,” the user captioned the video.
PETA has used this video to call once again for the end of these cruel and exploitative shows.
“It never should have happened again, and how many more times must the dysfunction, cruelty, and profound animal suffering at SeaWorld be exposed?” PETA wrote. “Left alone in their ocean homes, dolphins maintain dynamic relationships with large social networks, choose their own mates, and swim freely, but SeaWorld crams approximately 140 of these highly intelligent marine mammals into just seven small tanks and then expresses surprise when they lash out, again and again.”
PETA asked once again that the dolphins be removed from the park and placed in seaside sanctuaries.
Sign this petition to demand SeaWorld finally do the right thing and send these dolphins to a sanctuary!
8. Demand the Release of British-Egyptian Activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah
Source: FRANCE 24 English/YouTube
Political activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah has been in prison for the better part of the last nine years. Recently, he was sentenced to five more years in prison for allegedly spreading false news through social media after he shared a post about human rights abuses in Egyptian jails.
Now, with COP27 underway in Egypt, the 40-year-old has stopped drinking water in an attempt to pressure Egyptian authorities to allow him U.K. consular access. Many are concerned about the human rights activist and writer who has reportedly consumed just 100 calories a day for more than 200 days.
Last year, Abdel-Fattah acquired British citizenship and has been working to gain the right to a consular visit. According to the Free Alaa campaign, this request continues to be denied. Amnesty International chief Agnes Callamard said that they had less than three days to save his life. The president of Egypt has claimed there are no political prisoners in the country.
“If they do not want to end up with a death they should have and could have prevented, they must act now,” Callamard said.
Sign this petition to demand the immediate release and safe passage of activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah!
9. Demand Justice for Coco, a Dog Abused By Her Human’s Boyfriend
A boxer from Rhode Island abused his girlfriend’s 8-year-old beagle mix named Coco. Coco has multiple severe injuries, including multiple rib fractures. He is facing animal cruelty charges, but we need to make sure that he is banned from ever having an animal again.
Coco was brought in for emergency care and was treated, but the pup should not have experienced this awful abuse. It also was not the first time that Coco was treated for severe injuries. In August, the man and his girlfriend brought Coco to the vet with multiple rib fractures, which they said were from falling down the stairs.
This man should not be allowed to be around animals. He cannot be trusted with taking care of an animal and we need to make sure that no other animal can be harmed by him.
Sign this petition to demand that authorities fully prosecute this man and make sure that he can never have animals again in the future.
10. Tell U.S. Customs to Stop Saving Americans’ Phone Data Without Their Consent
Every year, Customs and Border Protection officials reportedly add data from 10,000 electronic devices to a huge database that they have created from devices seized at airports and other border crossings. The majority of data is captured from people who are not suspects of any crimes, and the data is kept for 15 years. Many argue that this database is unconstitutional and does nothing to keep us safe.
What’s even worse is that nearly 3,000 officers can access this database without a warrant. Many lawmakers and the public didn’t even know that this was happening until the CBP told Congress during a briefing earlier this year. Even if you aren’t engaged in any criminal activity, and border agents have no reason for suspicion, they can take your electronics and look at and store as much data as they would like.
As Americans, we are already subject to far too many data grabs from social media, search engines, police, and the NSA.
Sign this petition to demand that Customs and Border Protection end this mass surveillance program immediately and destroy all backlogged data!
