One of the oldest mammal species on the planet, the Gray Whales have been adapting their migration patterns for nearly 30 million years. Now, they hold the record for the longest migration at 12,400 miles round trip. Their route begins in October in the Bering Sea and ends in the Gulf of California.

This educational video by SEE Turtles shows the amazing migration of leatherback sea turtles, who swim thousands of miles to find food and a place to lay their nests. Instead of typical north-south migrations, the leatherback sea turtle travels from the east to the west for a whopping 10,000 miles!

3. Orca

Orcas are another whale that makes a considerable journey for their migration, traveling in large pods of up to 40 individual whales. Their travels take them up to 6,200 miles from Antarctica to the tropics where they shed their outer layer of skin in the safety of warm waters.

This fisherman caught amazing footage of a blue marlin swimming under his boat. While there is not a ton known about fish migration, a tagged blue marlin was once recorded migrating over 9,000 miles from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean.

5. Elephant Seal

Following a similar route to the gray whale, the northern elephant seal travels an estimated 13,000 miles. But, unlike any other creature on planet earth, they migrate twice! This means each journey is approximately 6,500 miles long. Not only do they do this, but they are heavily pregnant throughout their journeys.
