A new report from PETA has found that Tomohon Market in Sulawesi, Indonesia is still operating, amidst reports that a similar market in China is the cause of the coronavirus pandemic.
These “wet markets,” or live animal markets where animals are slaughtered and butchered on site, have activated Animal rights groups into protest mode. PETA visited wet markets in April and released gruesome footage of their experience, as well as a warning for similar markets.
During their visit, PETA activists saw “the flesh of wild boars, snakes, dogs, and rats… were openly sold at the market,” and “Gloveless workers and customers were seen handling the body parts of animals who had been killed on site.”

Conservation groups have called for a ban on wet markets, and New York and California legislators are working on a legal ban in their states. Jan Vertefeuille, a senior advisor for advocacy at the World Wildlife Fund, told NPR, “You might have bats sitting on top of pigs, sitting on top of pangolins, sitting on top of civet cats, and all their bodily fluids are kind of flowing into each other. It’s the perfect recipe for an epidemic, something like COVID-19 to emerge from a market like that.”

Scientists believe that the spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, started at an exotic animal market in Wuhan, China. You can help stop the incidence of viruses like these by signing this petition to ban the wildlife trade.
This is a good time to reconsider our intake of animal products to stay healthy. Eating more plant-based foods is known to help with chronic inflammation, heart health, mental wellbeing, fitness goals, nutritional needs, allergies, gut health and more! Dairy consumption also has been linked to many health problems, including acne, hormonal imbalance, cancer, prostate cancer and has many side effects.
