A new electronic dolphin has been designed for humans to swim with, to avoid the harm of swimming with real dolphins. Animal rights groups are excited about a new innovation that keeps tourists happy while keeping dolphins safe.

A California-based company, Edge Innovations, has created a realistic electronic dolphin that imitates the experience of swimming with a real dolphin. PETA has endorsed the electronic dolphins as replacements for real dolphins. The Dolphin Robotic Unit (DRU) is designed to simulate a real dolphin experience.

PETA Executive vice president Tracy Reiman said, “These visionary designers have thrown a lifeline to sensitive dolphins who are exploited in ‘swim with dolphins’ encounters and archaic marine parks. PETA is honoring them for making waves with this high-tech invention that lets people get up close to dolphins without harming them.”

Dolphins in captivity subject to stressful human interactions cause them physical and mental suffering. Dolphins in parks are confined to small tanks, which increase aggression and reduce necessary mental stimulation.
