The owner of a northeastern North Carolina kennel is being bombarded with animal welfare violations after over 60 dogs were seized from the location.

Police were contacted after dogs were seen running outside the facility unattended. When they responded to the call, police found dozens of dogs living outside in horrifically unkempt kennels, living in filth and exposed to the elements. Quickly after that discovery, police removed over 60 adult dogs and puppies from the kennel.

One adult dog was discovered dead, and dozens more needed to be taken to get emergency medical care. The owner of the kennel was afterward charged with multiple animal welfare violations. Many of the violations covered his lack of proper vet care, providing adequate living conditions, and letting animals become a public nuisance.

This is a truly horrific case of animal neglect as so many dogs were found in such inhumane conditions. The dogs that were still in good health were taken to a local animal shelter to await adoptions. Some of the dogs will need a longer recovery period before they can become adoptable.

As sad as this situation is, these dogs were saved and now have the chance at the life that they deserve. The community has been a great help in providing for these dogs and has generously donated to the shelter.
