A shelter in Florida is celebrating an empty kennel after all of their animals have found new homes. The Friends of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control said it is the first time that the shelter has emptied a kennel.
The kennel has 48 dog runs that usually hold two dogs each. Watch the video of the staff celebrating the empty kennel, below:
Elizabeth Harfmann, the community outreach manager for the shelter, told CNN, “It’s definitely been a combined effort from the community. The animals went to foster homes, adopters and to our partner rescue organizations. We’ve also seen a decrease in incoming animals, so that has helped as well.”
Many shelters have seen an increase in pet fosters and adoption due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, animal groups are warning that more animals could need homes as the economic situation shifts. “Everyone in animal welfare is bracing themselves,” said Anna Lai, marketing director for the New York-based nonprofit Muddy Paws.
