In an email to One Green Planet, Kitty Block, president, and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, said, “Our rescue team is on the ground in Kentucky to alleviate the suffering of animals and people impacted by this shocking disaster. The period following a tornado is a difficult and chaotic one for people who may have lost everything they own, not to mention having to bear the pain of losing a beloved family member or a pet. Our responders hope to reunite pets with their families through search and rescue efforts.”

The HSUS has encouraged people with missing pets to immediately check animal shelters and file a missing pet report, as well as ask around in local communities. They also recommend posting fliers and photographs all over your community.

After the series of deadly tornadoes that recently hit the tornado chain states, there is no way of knowing just how many pets are missing. Rescuers are doing amazing work to reunite as many pets with their families as possible.
