This week, a video went viral when a man saved a dog whose leash was stuck in an elevator. A woman was getting into an elevator with her dog, who was a on a long retractable leash. Unfortunately, she wasn’t paying close enough attention and got on without looking back at her dog. The doors closed and the dog was left outside the elevator. Thankfully, a heroic man had just gotten off the elevator and jumped into action!

The man, named Johnny Mathis says he was well aware of his surroundings as he was getting on the elevator. A good message to a world of people always on their phones. But more importantly, the story serves to remind those with fur babies to be very careful when stepping onto elevators or into any doors, really. Make sure your dog is close behind or right next to you. This could have been a deadly, tragic situation.

Mathis says that the woman panicked and he could hear her crying and screaming as soon as the doors closed, so she definitely realized how grave the situation was. When the elevator came back down, she was kneeling on the floor assuming the worst. Thankfully, Mathis was standing there holding her fur baby safely in his arms after saving his life — a true hero!
