A fundraiser endorsed by Jane Goodall has helped to relocate eight chimpanzees to their new forever home in Center for Great Apes in Florida, according to an emailed release.
The chimpanzees had been living temporarily at a closed wildlife refuge in California after financial difficulties caused it to close. It had been a haven for chimps from all kinds of situations. Many were originally pets or were used for biomedical experiments.

Project Chimps provided transportation for the eight chimps, allowing them to travel to Florida in comfort and style. 18 more remain at the closed wildlife refuge, waiting for more funding.
The eight chimps – Billy, Ewok, Josh, Maude, Sabina, Mystery, Sha Sha, and Jeeter – were specially picked out to go to the Florida sanctuary so that all of the chimps would be happy together and those with strong bonds would not be separated. Jeeter had social issues and joined the group in the hopes of forming friendships.

Everyone who has been involved is ecstatic that the group has finally made it to their forever home, where they can live out the rest of their lives in comfort.
Patti Ragan, the sanctuary’s founder, and president said in an email to One Green Planet, “We’re so happy to have them here, and they are settling in nicely to their new home.”
