Recently, in late March, authorities in Utah rescued 83 dogs from captivity in a house described as having “deplorable” living conditions.

It was reported that dogs were malnourished, lacking food and water, and covered in feces in the River Bottoms Road home. Animal Control deputies arrived at the scene and questioned 38-year-old homeowner Staci Milligan Baker about the animal abuse that was taking place in the house. The deputy told Barker that they noticed two distressed-looking puppies lying in feces in a small kennel on the kitchen floor and needed to investigate further.

According to the deputy, Baker was running a breeding operation and was selling the dogs out of her home. They later discovered that Barker was dishonest about taking the puppies to a vet and making sure they received the proper medication. After searching the home, the deputy found multiple dogs in cramped kennels, all of whom seemed to be malnourished.

Many puppies who come from breeding operations suffer from serious health problems. The fact is that all dogs deserve a loving home and should no longer be commodities that are bred for profit. There is no real justification for the perpetuation of dog breeding.
