A young cougar was found in Port Alberni, British Columbia, bleeding and gravely injured after allegedly being shot in the leg and chest. Officials were forced to euthanize the suffering animal. The BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) has launched an investigation — but without public pressure, justice may never come.
Cougar hunting in B.C. is legal only under strict conditions, yet this incident appears to violate the BC Wildlife Act. The shooter reportedly failed to report the incident, allegedly leaving the cougar to die slowly — a shocking act of cruelty that cannot be ignored. Wildlife like this are vital to healthy ecosystems, and failing to act sends the message that such violence is acceptable.
Sign the petition now to urge BCCOS and the Government of British Columbia to identify and prosecute whoever is responsible — and to strengthen enforcement protecting Canada’s wildlife.
