Across the Myanmar–Thailand border, criminal networks are allegedly abducting people and forcing them into scam compounds where torture, electric shocks, and violence are routine. Victims are lured with fake job offers, have their passports seized, and are locked in guarded complexes — some working up to 22 hours a day. Experts estimate over 100,000 people are trapped in these forced-labour “scam centers,” coerced into defrauding victims worldwide through fake investment, romance, and tech scams.
International action has freed some workers, but it’s only a fraction of those still enslaved. Families unable to pay ransoms watch helplessly as loved ones remain imprisoned by organized crime. These operations have doubled in the last four years — and the violence is escalating.
Governments must act now to pressure Myanmar to shut down these human trafficking rings and rescue the victims. Sign the petition now to help end this modern-day slavery.
