The Galápagos Islands are celebrated worldwide for their extraordinary wildlife — giant tortoises, sea iguanas, and unique bird species found nowhere else on Earth. But behind this ecological paradise lies a growing human tragedy that cannot be ignored. Women and girls on the islands are facing an escalating crisis of sexual violence — one that local activists say the Ecuadorian government is allegedly failing to address.
In 2024, three teenage girls were allegedly drugged and raped near a tourist site called El Mango. Activists report that gender-based violence now makes up around 25% of all crimes on the islands, yet only 5% of sexual violence cases lead to convictions. Even a 12-year-old girl giving birth was met with silence — no investigation, no justice.
It’s time for action. Sign the petition now to demand protection, accountability, and justice for the women and girls of the Galápagos.
