Los Angeles, June 30, 2018: Activists hold signs during The Families Belong Together march around the Metropolitan Detention Center

Allegations of severe abuse are emerging from California’s largest ICE detention facility, located about 100 miles north of Los Angeles. Reports describe “hellish” conditions: detainees allegedly denied medication, forced to drink dirty water, and confined for up to 23.5 hours a day. These accounts suggest systemic human rights violations that must end now.

The facility is run by CoreCivic — a private prison company that earned over $2 billion in 2024 while allegedly profiting from immigrant suffering. Some advocates claim it’s operating illegally without proper permits. No corporation should profit from cruelty or environmental neglect within carceral systems. The Department of Homeland Security must shut down this site and cancel all future CoreCivic contracts.

These are people, not prisoners of profit. Demand accountability — sign the petition now to help end this abuse.
