Lotte, a 5-month-old Shepherd mix, has faced more hardship in her short life than most dogs could imagine. Discovered on July 30 on a porch in Texas, she was severely malnourished and suffering from mange, a skin condition caused by mites. Weighing just 25 pounds, Lotte was in dire need of help.
The Austin Pets Alive animal shelter took her in, where they began the arduous process of nursing her back to health. Luis Sanchez, the shelter’s director of public relations, suspects that Lotte’s severe condition may be due to neglect or abuse. Evidence, including the possible marks from a muzzle, suggests she may have been restrained or deprived of food.
Despite the challenges, Lotte’s spirits are high. She is receiving comprehensive care at the shelter, including treatments for her mange, a variety of nutritious foods, and medical attention to help her regain her strength. Dr. Anna Foreman from Everypaw Pet Insurance emphasizes the importance of proper nutrition for growing puppies, noting that deficiencies can lead to long-term health issues.
