As the staff at @unleashedpetrescue were getting ready to leave for the night, they saw two sad eyes staring at them through the front door. Someone had tied a dog to the front door of the shelter and disappeared without even leaving a note.
It was 9 degrees outside and this poor dog would have frozen to death if the staff hadn’t noticed him waiting there. After bringing him inside and assessing his health, they gave him a bath and some much-needed love and affection! It was clear that this poor dog had not been properly taken care of, and was in rough shape. Although he has been through a lot, this rescue video shows just how patient, trusting, and loving he is.
In 2019 alone, there were 37 animal companion deaths related to cold weather, and those are just the ones that were reported. Most animals aren’t, PETA reported. It is not uncommon to find dogs in yards and public spaces tied to trees or other stationary objects in freezing temperatures. For these innocent animals, being tied up and helpless is terrifying.
If you witness suspected cruelty to animals, call your local animal control agency as soon as possible or dial 9-1-1 if you’re unfamiliar with local organizations, says The Humane Society.
