The world’s largest hot dog chain, Wienerschnitzel, is launching the Field Roast Plant-Based Signature Stadium Dog in its restaurants nationwide. It is the first restaurant to do so in the US.
The Field Roast Plant-Based Signature Stadium Dog is made primarily from pea protein and is crafted in small batches to be 100% vegan and protein-rich. It is lower in sodium and trans fats than regular hot dogs, giving consumers a healthier and kinder option.
This release follows a successful test run at select locations. Customers were ecstatic over the plant-based option, leading the restaurant chain to officially make the meatless hotdog a part of the menu for good.
Doug Koegeboehn, Chief Marketing Officer of Wienerschnitzel, said, “We’re excited to bring the Field Roast plant-based dogs systemwide following the great consumer response in our in-market tests across California, Texas, and New Mexico. Consumers are eager to try plant-based options, and those who have tried our Veggie Dogs keep coming back for more. We look forward to making the product even more accessible with this national expansion.”
With Americans consuming an estimated 20 billion hot dogs per year, the market for meatless hot dogs should definitely be tapped into.
Dan Curtin, President of Greenleaf Foods, said, “Few foods stir passion like hot dogs, and we’re proud to satisfy that all-American hot dog craving for plant-based consumers nationwide through our continued partnership with Wienerschnitzel. It’s an honor to partner with such a popular and iconic restaurant chain where hot dogs aren’t just an option – they’re the menu’s focus.”
It’s important to note that while the hot dog itself is vegan, not all of the toppings on the Wienerschnitzel veggie dog menu are.
