Back in 2013, Soylent was founded by CEO Rob Rhinehart, who wished to develop an efficient food source that provided access to substantial nutrition throughout the entire nation. They also use science and technology to solve current issues within the food system. Some of their plant-based products include Soylent Drinks, coffee products, and nutritional protein powder.
This company has been making big moves over the last year. It is being sold in over 10,000 stores across the U.S. including Walmart, 7-Eleven, and now Amazon.
Melody Connor, responsible for Soylent sales, says that they have devised strategic retail partnerships to provide the growing need for complete nutrition at an affordable price.
Kroger, the largest retailer in the country, is upping their plant-based offerings by providing their consumers with access to a niche product that checks both convenient and nutrient boxes. Kroger may be looking to further dip their toes into the plant-based market because currently 17% of American consumers are adhering to a mostly plant-based diet.
The hopes of this retailer is to provide their customers with more plant-based options, while marketing a product like Soylent that offers 20% of your daily nutritional requirements of vitamins and minerals, and also packs 20 grams of plant-fueled protein.
With the success of the 7-Eleven launch already blooming, we hope that Soylent meal replacements do just as well at Kroger retailers!
