As vegans, we’ve all heard it countless times, but it doesn’t make it any less annoying. Recently, a Reddit user, u/elmoblockbaby posted on the forum r/vegan about being told that their vegan diet must be so limiting as they were buying produce at the grocery store.
“Oh you’re vegan? Your diet must be so limiting.”

“Oh you’re vegan? Your diet must be so limiting,” someone at the produce market told them as they were picking up peppers and kale.
“and even though I kept my mouth shut; this upset me,” the Reddit user wrote.
The user explained that their diet has actually become much more nuanced and diverse since going vegan. When they still ate meat, they would eat boring steak, green beans, and rice for dinner several times a week.
“Chicken, pig or cow— plus carrots or green beans as vegetable and a grain like rice.”
However, since going vegan they said they have been able to discover their own taste pellet “… and it’s amazing!”
The user went on to explain just how many amazing vegetables we have available to use and how most people just eat the same boring diet when consuming meat.
“Brussel sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, kale, asparagus, sweet potatoes and yams, so maybe types of pumpkin and squash—eggplant! So many more!”
Not to mention all of the different kinds of beans and legumes!
“Along with that, I’ve discovered new tastes and cultural foods. I’ve been to authentic thai restaurants and tasted such complex seasonings that originate from so many cultures, I’ve been taught by so many different people on vegan cooking with so many cultural backgrounds.”
“Genuinely I don’t believe half of nonvegans have tried tofu, tempeh, seitan, or even plant-based meats.”
Many people are weary of these plant proteins but they are truly delicious and a great clean and healthy source of protein and nurients.
“So while you can eat your dry, salt-and-pepper pork with barely 1/2 a serving of soggy carrots, I will be enjoying my plate full of veggies, rice, and tofu. And I am happy with what you would like to call a “limited” diet,” they added.
