A new report from the Eco Experts has found that UK pollution levels will decrease significantly due to coronavirus measures. The report examined estimates of emissions reductions starting from March 19 and lasting for 12 weeks.

The organization found that total emissions in the country would drop by 28.22 million tonnes. Examining public transport, road vehicles, energy usage, London pollution, and air travel to find their conclusions, the company found large expected reductions in all five areas as the country follows social distancing guidelines that mandate they stay inside.

The largest drop comes from reduced road vehicle usage as an estimated 97.2% of the UK stays home. Eco Experts estimate that 24.5 million tonnes of emissions would be saved from the lack of driving.

Eco Experts writer and analyst Josh Jackman said in an emailed statement, “The UK’s CO2e emissions are set to drop by 28.22 million tonnes during the first 12 weeks of lockdown, as cars leave the roads and planes stay out of the skies. 97% of the population is staying home, and the longer that happens, the more pollution levels will drop – perhaps the only positive consequence from this global crisis.”

Reports on China have found significant emissions reductions there, including reduced air pollution.

The United Nation recently released a report warning countries about the dangers of climate change. They also urged people to reduce their dairy and meat intake by opting for more plant-based foods as one way to take climate action. Eating more plant-based foods is also known to help with chronic inflammation, heart health, mental wellbeing, fitness goals, nutritional needs, allergies, gut health and more! Dairy consumption also has been linked to many health problems, including acne, hormonal imbalance, cancer, prostate cancer and has many side effects.
