Online fundraising platforms are raising money while gamers stream ‘Stray’ to help animal shelters and other cat-related charities. The game’s publisher, Annapurna Interactive, promoted Stray by offering two cat rescue and adoption agencies copies of the game to raffle off. They also even rented out a New York cat cafe.

Although streaming live game playing for charity is nothing new, Fox News reported that Stray quickly became a crowd and cat lover favorite. When it launched on Twitch, it was the fourth most watched broadcast game that day according to the streaming platform.

The video game follows the adventurous orange cat as he wanders through a seemingly abandoned city while solving puzzles and avoiding enemies. According to one creator, about 80 percent of the game’s development team are cat owners and lovers. A real-life orange stray cat even helped inspire the game.

“I certainly hope that maybe some people will be inspired to help actual strays in real life — knowing that having an animal and a companion is a responsibility,” said producer Swann Martin-Raget.
