Time to pack our bags and take a trip to Oregon! In partnership with plant-based company Beyond Meat, vegan restaurant Next Level Burger has debuted a new menu item — and we need it. Next Level Burger co-founder Matthew de Gruyter explained his decision to add the plant-based Beyond Burger to the menu in in an interview with VegNews, described the patty as being “reminiscent of a classic, thick beef burger.” Indeed, if you haven’t tried the Beyond Burger yet, it looks, cooks, and tastes like a traditional beef patty, right down to the juicy texture and crispy exterior. It also packs a whopping 20 grams of plant-based pea protein per patty and it’s the first veggie burger ever to be sold alongside meat in the grocery store.
The good news broke via Beyond Meat’s Facebook page, accompanied by a tasty preview of what you can expect when you order the “stacked” Beyond Burger. Oh, also, you can now order any burger on Next Level Burger’s menu with a Beyond Burger patty. Score.
Like the famous Impossible Burger, also known as “the burger that bleeds” (which, thankfully, is available in restaurants on the East Coast), the Beyond Burger is making waves in the food space by changing the consumer perception of what a veggie burger is. A recent report by global market research firm Mintel shows that more people than ever are open to trying meatless burgers, a trend that is being driven largely by Millennials; 64 percent have tried meatless burgers versus 28 percent of Baby Boomers.
We were already jealous of the fact that West Coast-based chain Veggie Grill serves the Beyond Burger on its entirely plant-based menu but now, we have even more of a reason to start planning our summer road trip. Given that the Beyond Burger just made its debut in Hong Kong and was recently added to the menu at Yale University, we also really hope this means that the Beyond Burger will be coming to even more restaurant chains in the very near future.
It’s always nice to be able to pick up a premade veggie burger for convenience, but if you’re looking for homemade vegan burger recipes, check out the Food Monster App, which is available for both Android and iPhone. With over 8,000 vegan recipes (and over 10 new recipes added daily), you’re going to find something you love!
