When this pregnant sheep named Zoe was rescued from a basement, she had never seen the outside world before! She lived in a dark, small, enclosed space with rats running around. Her previous owners bred her for her wool and completely disregarded her wellbeing. Volunteers at Riley Farm Rescue brought her to the sanctuary, and at first, Zoe was too nervous about going outside on her own, not knowing what to expect. As days passed and she became more comfortable in her new home, she started to explore the world for the first time in her life.

“The beautiful Zoë is doing so well. She is so attached to us already, following us anywhere we will let her and bahhing when we leave her,” said the rescue.
Riley Farm Rescue brought her to the vet, where she received her vaccines, checkup, fecal, and ultrasound.
Zoe recently gave birth to a girl named Sydney. “Zoe and Sydney are doing wonderfully living their best life – together! Keeping moms and their babies together is one of our main goals here at TRFR. Every Easter, we try to rescue a mom and lamb or pregnant mom, the rescue added. For updates on Zoe and other rescues, check out Riley Farm Rescue on Facebook and Instagram. Many people have an idyllic image of happy sheep roaming green hills, but as with any industry that profits from animals, money always comes before the animals’ wellbeing. Mulesing is a common barbaric practice in which farmers carve huge chunks of skin and flesh from lambs’ backsides using tools resembling gardening shears. When their wool production begins to decline, most sheep are killed for meat. Luckily, there are plenty of cruelty-free fabrics to choose from, including cotton, cotton flannel, polyester fleece, synthetic shearling, and many others. You can skip the cruelty—and that icky, itchy feeling—by choosing vegan options the next time that you go shopping.
