If you’re a fan of Star Trek, you might be surprised to learn that the popular sci-fi series is pro-vegan! I recently came across a Reddit post from u/MattJohno2 in the forum r/Vegan where he explained that he watched Star Trek for the first time since going vegan and noticed that it has a very pro-vegan message. As a vegan, I was intrigued by this information and decided to rewatch the series to see just how strong its pro-vegan message was. I started with Enterprise, the prequel to the original series, and quickly discovered that even then, most Vulcans were vegetarian.
I've been rewatching Star Trek(First time since going vegan) and I've noticed that it's VERY pro-Vegan. Let me explain.

But it wasn’t until I watched an episode of Enterprise called “Rogue Planet” that I realized just how pro-vegan Star Trek really is. In this episode, the crew discovers an alien race that travels to a planet to hunt the native fauna. Captain Archer encounters a telepathic animal that can communicate with him and doesn’t want to be killed for sport. The episode makes it clear that hunting is far from the norm in this society.
In Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG), it’s mentioned that humanity has stopped exploiting animals for food purposes, and in Voyager, they basically say the same for animal testing. This is a clear message that animal exploitation is wrong and that humans have the ability to change their ways.
“I mean in Next Gen Riker comes right out and says “We no longer enslave animals for food purposes.”” a Reddit user added on the post.
In Voyager, we are introduced to the Hirogen, a species that hunts other sentient beings. However, Janeway and her crew find this behavior to be immoral and offer the Hirogen a holodeck to hunt on instead. This is another example of Star Trek’s pro-vegan message, showing that even hunting for sport is unacceptable.
Star Trek is a great example of a TV show that explores different ethical standpoints, including the ethical treatment of animals. It’s not just about space travel and aliens; it’s about examining our own values and beliefs. The fact that it promotes veganism and Animal rights is a testament to the show’s commitment to exploring ethical issues.
As a vegan, I’m thrilled to see a popular TV series promoting the same values I hold dear. If you’re not vegan yet, I encourage you to give it a try. You might be surprised at how easy and delicious it is to eat plant-based meals. And who knows? Maybe Star Trek will inspire you to make a positive change in your life.
Star Trek’s pro-vegan message is clear throughout the series. It shows that animal exploitation is wrong, and that humans have the power to make a positive change. If you haven’t watched Star Trek before, I highly recommend giving it a try. It’s not just a sci-fi series; it’s a thought-provoking exploration of our values and beliefs. And if you’re not vegan yet, I encourage you to give it a try. You might just find that it’s a great way to live a more sustainable and compassionate life.
