When a man fell in a remote part of California’s Tahoe National Forest, his Border collie helped lead a search and rescue team back to his owner. The pup acted in “true ‘Lassie’ fashion,” rescuers said.

The 53-year-old man fell 70 feet in the forest and believed that his hip and ribs were broken. The man was able to find a location with cellphone service and call local authorities, and a team of 25 members of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue was dispatched to find him.
The team pinged the man’s cell phone and talked to a friend to try to determine his location. That’s when the Border collie, Saul, came running through the woods and led the team back to his owner.
“The true credit goes to the subject’s K9 Border Collie that ran through the forest approximately 200 yards and in true ‘Lassie’ fashion to flag down two searchers,” the Nevada County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue said in a Facebook post.
They found the man under a camouflage tarp, and he was taken by helicopter to the hospital for treatment for his “traumatic injuries.”
“Great work and skill by all involved today and for the Border Collie, he was transported back to Grass Valley and given a well-deserved dinner,” the post said.
The pup is now being looked after by a local nonprofit until his owner is healed. Saul is a true hero pup!
