With a love of words, furry friends, and a passion for figuring out how to leave this earth better than when I arrived, I'm here at One Green Planet trying to make a difference through stories. When I'm not typing away trying to highlight the most incredible rescue story or vegan news, you can find me chowing down, singing a tune, riding my bike, reading, writing, or (almost definitely) thinking about what to make for dinner. A world without bees is becoming a reality in some parts of the world, and this means deep trouble for us humans. Bees play a critical role in our food system, pollinating a majority of the foods we eat every day, unfortunately, the pesticides used on many of these crops are killing them. With a rapid decline since 2006, it’s estimated that within the past decade, beekeepers have seen a steady decrease of their bee populations by 30 percent each year. Neonicotinoids, a group of pesticides, are believed to be one of the main drivers of this population loss, damaging the immune systems of bees, and rendering them unusually susceptible to disease.
We need to do whatever we can to make sure this doesn’t become a reality. These photos illustrate how much we rely on bees for our agriculture and food production, and how truly dire it is that we protect the bees from complete extinction. Without bees we are all finished!!! If the bees are gone no plants are pollinated. No plants, no animals. Simple as that.
