There are countless stories of the abuse that animals suffer in factory farms. Animals are cramped, stolen from their mothers, mutilated, and tortured until they are slaughtered for people to eat. It’s so heartbreaking to hear about the atrocities that animals endure at the hands of humans. Hopefully one day, we will live in a world without factory farming and animal agriculture altogether. However, for now, it’s important to bear witness to and educate others about the inhumane treatment of animals

In addition to the cruel torture inflicted on animals in factory farms, the devastating impact of factory farming on the environment is becoming increasingly more discussed in mainstream spheres. Factory farming accounts for mass deforestation37% of global methane emissions, and uses 70% of the world’s freshwater. However, environmental destruction is not the only atrocity involved in factory farming – more recently, the detrimental impact the working conditions of factory farms have on workers is being examined. For starters, the high job turnover rate, ranging from 95-100% annually, can provide an indication of how squalid these working conditions are. Likewise, factory farm workers are often undocumented immigrants being exploited by factory owners for cheap labor, and there is a 50% likelihood of factory workers being injured on the job.

Despite evidence of the disturbing treatment of animals, environmental devastation, and exploitative and dangerous working conditions, factory farms have endured relatively unchanged throughout history.  Fortunately, Senators Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren are working together to push legislation that would ban large-scale factory farms in the U.S. over the next 20 years. Sign this petition to support their endeavor and ask Congress to pass legislation that would ban factory farming in the U.S.
